How to make Microwave Potato Chips

by Stephanie

You will not believe how easy it is to make Microwave Potato Chips! I worked on this recipe and brought them to my husband. He was munching away and said, “Don’t do you dare tell me these were made in the microwave. No one will believe it!” This post contains affiliate links.

I laughed and told him they were definitely made in the microwave. I think I need to make a video complete with chowing down on them so you can see they really do come out crunchy. They remind me of kettle chips.

My husband was so impressed, he ate almost all of the first batch I made and was trying to come up with ways to sell them. Crazy!

What ingredients do you need to make Microwave Potato Chips?

You don’t need much – just 3 ingredients!

  • Potatoes
  • Olive Oil (Olive Oil Spray works good, too!)
  • Salt

I would also recommend parchment paper and a cheese grater like this one with a slicer on the side.

Remove from the microwave and flip over the potato chips.

Heat for an additional 1 1/2 minutes. Check for the potato chips start turning brown and hardening.

Heat for an additional 1 1/2 minutes. This should allow more potatoes to crisp up, bubble a little, and turn golden brown.

Microwave Potato Chips on parchment paper cooling.

Then, remove from microwave and allow to cool.

Check potato chips as they cool to see if they are turning crispy.

If they still seem soft or soggy, heat again for another 1 1/2 minutes. Then, let them cool again.

After the chips cool, transfer to a clean piece of parchment paper and add salt or seasoning salt to taste.

Keep them in a sealed container like a ziplock bag for up to 2-3 days.
