Ingredients needed to make Garlic Butter Salmon

The ingredients to make garlic butter salmon
  • fresh salmon (.5 to .75 lb – serves 2 people)
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon parmesan cheese
  • 1 teaspoon minced garlic

You also need a microwave-safe baking dish with a lid as it needs to be covered while you’re cooking the salmon.

How do you make Garlic Butter Salmon in the Microwave?

This is incredibly easy to make, and it takes seconds to put together and just minutes to cook. My husband works from home, so this is one of the lunches I can quickly make for him with a side of steamed broccoli or asparagus.

Before cooking the salmon, it should not have much of a smell. If it smells fishy, it’s gone bad.

Melt the butter in the baking dish in the microwave for 30 seconds to 1 minute.

Garlic butter

Mix in the oil, parmesan cheese, and minced garlic with the butter.

The salmon placed skin side up in garlic butter before cooking.

Place the salmon steak in the butter sauce with the skin side facing upwards.

Heat in the microwave for about 5-6 minutes, until the salmon easily flakes with a fork.

This was made in a 1000-watt microwave. If yours is higher, then the cooking time is less, and if your wattage is lower, then the cooking time might be longer.

Serve immediately.

How do you store leftovers?

I keep it in a sealed container with a drizzle of the garlic butter sauce over the top for up to 2 days. If it starts to smell fishy, I would not eat it.

Can you make this ahead of time?

In my opinion, this is best served fresh from the microwave. But, I’m a little weird when it comes to fish. I know my son loves to heat it up in the microwave after it’s been cooked.

Can you substitute the garlic for something else?

Absolutely! You can add minced onion. You can also switch out a tablespoon of lemon juice instead and skip both the parmesan and the garlic.
