How do you make Hot Cocoa in the Microwave?
This is incredibly easy, and I swear my kids love it more than using a hot chocolate mix packet with watery.
I usually pour in the cocoa and the sugar into the mug I’m going to serve the hot cocoa in and set it aside.
Then, I heat up the milk in a pyrex glass pitcher.
Those glass pitchers come in 1 cup, 2 cup and 4 cup sizes, and I use them all the time. From making tea to making gravy to melting butter — all in the microwave. I cannot live without a set of them.
Heat the milk up in 15-20 second intervals. Stir the milk after each time and heat again. It usually takes about 60 seconds total in my microwave, which is 1000 watts, and I heat the milk on HIGH.
If you have a higher wattage microwave, like 1500 watt, I would recommend dropping to 70% power. For an 800 watt microwave, it usually takes about 90 seconds on medium and 60 seconds on high.
Once you can see steam coming off the milk, it’s definitely hot enough.

Pour the milk into the mug and stir until everything is completely mixed up and there is no more cocoa or sugar you can see.
Top with your favorite things like marshmallows, crushed peppermints, and whipped cream.
