How do you choose avocados for guacamole?
I recommend using one large avocado per person for this recipe. If you’re using smaller ones, then go with two per person.
When choosing avocados to make guacamole today or tomorrow you want them to be soft, but firm. If you choose overly ripe avocados, they’ll probably have block spots inside. You want it to have the same softness as a ripened peach. You don’t want it too squishy, like a brown banana.
If you’re going to make guacamole 3 or more days from now, you’ll want to choose harder avocados so they don’t over ripen before you can use them.
How to make Super Simple Guacamole
Wash the avocado and slice it in half. Then remove the pit. Spoon out the avocado into a bowl. Add a squeeze of lime, add a pinch of salt, and a few shakes of roasted minced garlic. Then, stir it up. Feel free to eat it right now, or chill it for 10-15 minutes in the fridge.
If you have any leftover guacamole, you’ll need to eat it within a few hours. Otherwise, the air will turn it an ugly brown color.
If you want to get fancy with your guacamole, you can add a few things to it:
- a tablespoon of ranch dressing
- a couple tablespoons of pico de gallo
- drained salsa
- bacon and feta cheese
- chopped fruit like strawberries, pineapple, or peaches
