How do you make Halloween Spider Bark?

A plastic purple witch hat with squares of halloween spider chocolate bark.

Set a piece of wax paper on a cookie sheet.

In a large microwave-safe bowl, pour the entire bag of the green candy melts into the bowl.

Heat the green candy melts for 30-second increments.

DO NOT SKIP THIS STEP – Mix up the candy melts after each 30 seconds. If you skip this part, the candy melts will seize and get nasty and you’ll have to start over again with new candy melts.

You’ll probably need to heat them for about four to five times until they are mixed up and completely runny and smooth.

If they still seem a bit clumpy, my secret weapon is using Wilton’s EZ Thins. These are little chips that melts into the candy melts to make them sooth and pourable. I use these all the time when making cake pops or other desserts using candy melts.

Spread the candy melts on the wax paper on the cookie sheet.

Quickly add the gummy spiders. Space them out, so when it dries, you can break up the bark into individual pieces each with a spider. For 1 bag of green candy melts, I do six spiders to get 6 pieces of bark. I often double this and make a large batch on a larger cookie sheet for 12 pieces of bark with 12 spiders.

Melt a tablespoon or two of the red candy melts in a microwave-safe bowl just as you did the green candy melts. It should only take 30-45 seconds.

Stir the red candy melts until completely smooth and runny. Add EZ Melts if necessary to get them smooth.

Take a tooth pick and dip it into the candy melts about 1/2 inch. Then, press the toothpick gently over the lower abdomen of the black spider to make it look like a black widow. Do this for each spider.

Melt 1/2 cup of white candy melts in a small microwave-safe bowl in the same way as you did the green ones, 30-second increments, stirring after each time. Since this is a smaller amount, it will probably take just 2 to 3 times in the microwave.

Stir the white candy melts until completely smooth and runny. Add EZ Melts if necessary to get them smooth.

When the candy melts are runny and smooth, dip the back of a spoon into the candy melts and drizzle over the green bark and spiders to make it look like spider webs.

While the candy is still warm and melty, sprinkle the Halloween sprinkles over the top.

Allow it to dry on the counter for a couple hours, or pop it in the fridge or freezer for 10-15 minutes until hardened.

Use a knife to cut the bark into pieces.

Serve immediately.

How to store leftover Spider Bark?

Keep it in a sealed container for up to a week.

How to package it up for gift giving?

Want to give a cute Halloween treat? Just add a piece or two of this spider bark to a cellophane bag and tie it up with a Halloween-themed spider ribbons.
