Did you know you can make Garlic Rice in the Microwave? This is one of my favorite recipes because you can literally make it for so many dishes. I’ve made it along with butter chicken, stir fry, Mongolian beef, and even just by itself.
I have even used leftover garlic rice as the base to make my Easy Fried Rice recipe.

Ingredients to make Garlic Rice
I use parboil rice all the time for a side dish. And by parboil, I mean Minute Rice, which is rice that is partially precooked, so your cooking time is way shorter.
For Garlic Rice, I have used both minute jasmine rice and regular white minute rice. I think it tastes great either way.
Here’s what you need:
- Minute rice (white or jasmine)
- Chicken broth
- Minced Garlic
- Butter
- Water
How do you make Garlic Rice in the Microwave?
This is a super simple recipe. I’ve paired it with so many thing from baked salmon to orange chicken.
In a large microwave-safe bowl, melt the butter for about 30 seconds on HIGH.
Add the minced garlic and stir it up and cook for another 30 seconds on HIGH.
In this same bowl, combine 2 cups of minute rice with 1 cup of chicken broth and 1 cup of water.
Stir everything up and microwave for 10 minutes on HIGH.
When the rice is done, fluff it with a fork before serving.
Serve immediately.
