Peanut Butter and Chocolate are just the best, and I think it’s definitely a better combo than pb&j. This Easy Microwave Buckeye Fudge is similar to the delicious Buckeye cookies (or candy) you can make at home. This post contains affiliate links.

What’s in Microwave Buckeye Fudge?

You just need chocolate chips, peanut butter chips, sweetened condensed milk, vanilla extract, and some butter.

The easy thing about this fudge is that it’s basically the same fudge made with chocolate chips and then made again using peanut butter chips. Then, they’re just layered together. How easy is that?

How do you make Easy Microwave Buckeye Fudge?

You can start with either layer. It really doesn’t matter. I started with the chocolate layer first. I have made it both ways, and it tastes great either way.

A white bowl of chocolate chips.

Make sure you use sweetened condensed milk and not evaporated milk. Evaporated milk does not work in this recipe.

When the fudge is ready to set, you need to work fast. Make sure to get everything ready.

Making both the chocolate and the peanut butter layers, you can make a total of two loaf-size pans. Cover the bottom and sides of each loaf pan with foil, so you can easily lift the fudge out after it’s set.

Combine the sweetened condensed milk and the chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl and heat in the microwave for one-minute intervals. If you don’t trust your microwave, then try 30-second intervals.

A bowl of chocolate chips covered in sweetened condensed milk.

After each time, mix up the fudge to prevent the chocolate from getting too hot. By 2 1/2 to 3 minutes, the mixture should be smooth with the chocolate completely melted.

Now is the time that you need to work fast. Have the butter ready and cubed into smaller pieces so it will melt quickly. Add the vanilla and butter and stir until they are completely incorporated.

Divide the fudge evenly and pour into the pans.

Now we are going to do the exact same thing with the peanut butter chips. Combine the sweetened condensed milk and the peanut butter chips in a microwave-safe bowl and heat in the microwave for 30 second to 1 minute intervals.

Stir the melting peanut butter chips to prevent it from getting too hot. By 2 1/2 to 3 minutes, the mixture should be smooth with the chips completely melted.

Have the butter ready and cubed into smaller pieces so it will melt quickly. Add the vanilla and butter and stir until they are completely incorporated.

Divide the peanut butter fudge evenly and pour into each pan on top of the chocolate fudge.

Allow it to set for 1 to 2 hours. If you want to speed up that time, put it in the fridge.

Can you add mixins to the fudge?

When I layer two flavors, I tend to not add any mixins, but you can do anything you want.

Can you add toppings to the microwave buckeye fudge?

Well “technically” you can make your fudge however you want to, but I don’t think it’s really “buckeye” fudge if it’s more than peanut butter and chocolate. But…who cares, really? So, I say absolutely you can add toppings.

Have your toppings prepared before you make the fudge because you will need to add the toppings immediately after you pour the top layer fudge into the pans.

Here’s a few topping ideas:

  • chocolate shavings
  • chocolate chips
  • pecan or walnut halves
  • chopped nuts
  • crushed Butterfingers
  • melted peanut butter drizzle (if the top layer is chocolate this looks nice!)

How do you make the Microwave Buckeye Fudge into a Gift?

This is the fun part. I love packaging up homemade gifts. You can give the whole loaf away, or you can cut it into slices or cubes for gift giving. Most of the time I give my fudge in disposable loaf pans and don’t cut it at all or I cut it into bite-sized cubes if I’m just giving small gifts.

You can get pretty packaging or treat bags at the dollar stores. When I’m short on supplies, wax paper or even a mason jar is my go-to packaging tied with baking twine

I buy a big package of these tins and can use them for fudge, cookies, and so many other treats for gift giving.

Make sure you grab the free holiday tags at the top of the post to add to your gift!
