Did you know you could make all your side dishes right in the microwave? And, they take just minutes!

What do you need to make Microwave Green Bean Casserole?

You’ll need the ingredients for traditional green bean casserole:

  • a can of cream of mushroom soup
  • 2 cans of green beans
  • milk
  • soy sauce
  • french fried onions

How do you make Microwave Green Bean Casserole?

I like to save a bowl and mix it right up in the casserole dish.

In a 7 x 11 inch microwave-safe dish combine the milk, soy sauce, and mushroom soup and whisk together until completely mixed.

Drain both cans of green beans.

Can you make the Microwave Green Bean Casserole ahead of time?

You can make up the soup and green bean mixture ahead of time and put it in the fridge ready to cook, but it will take a few more minutes longer to get it bubbly in the microwave. I’d recommend adding 2-3 additional minutes to the time to cook. Then, add the french fried onions right before serving.

How do you store leftover Microwave Green Bean Casserole?

Keep in a covered container in the fridge for up to 3 to 4 days.

Variations on Green Bean Casserole

  • Add 1 can of water chestnuts, drained, to the soup mixture before cooking.
  • Switch out the french fried onions for crunchy chow mein noodles.
  • Add 1/2 cup of shredded cheddar cheese to the soup/green bean mixture to make a cheesy flavor.
  • Add 5 to 6 slices of precooked crumbled crispy bacon mixed in with the french fried onions for a smoky flavor.
  • You can also add the cheese and the bacon together for a Cheesy Bacon Green Bean Casserole.
  • Add 4 oz of cubed Velveeta to the soup mixture. Make sure it’s completely melted and give it a good stir when you take it out of the oven, then add the crumbled bacon with the french fried onions.
