How do you make Peppermint Popcorn Balls?
If you can make rice krispies treats in the microwave, you can totally make popcorn balls, too! It’s very easy, and if you have kids, they can totally help make these, too.
Pop the popcorn in the microwave according to the package.
Pour the popcorn into a bowl and remove any unpopped kernels.
Lay out a cookie sheet with parchment paper.
Melt the butter in a large microwave-safe bowl.
Add the sugar to the melted butter and mix it up until it’s completely combined.
Add the marshmallows and stir them up until they are coated in the sugar/butter mixture.
Heat in the marshmallow mixture for 30-second intervals. Stir after each 30 seconds. Continue heating and stirring until it’s completely melted goo.
Add the popcorn to the marshmallow goo and mix it up. Usually, I find it easier to pour the melted marshmallow goo over the popcorn than the popcorn into the marshmallow goo.
Mix it all up and the popcorn is as evenly coated as possible.
Transfer the popcorn mixture to the parchment paper.
Sprinkle some crushed candy cane over the top of all the popcorn.
Let it sit for 10 minutes or so.
Lay out a second cookie sheet with parchment paper.
Pour the crushed candy canes into a bowl that is big enough to roll the popcorn balls.
Take about a cup of the mixture at a time and roll into a ball.
Then, roll each ball into the crushed peppermints and set on the parchment paper.
After you’ve completed each popcorn ball, wrap each one in plastic wrap until you’re ready to serve.
