I’m sure you’ve seen these fruit cobblers all over the internet that take just 3 ingredients. They get popular every summer.

They really are just three ingredient with box cake mix, butter, and some kind of fruit or canned fruit, or pie filling.

Did you ever think you could do this in the microwave? You totally can!

What kind of fruit can you use to make a Microwave Fruit Cobbler?

I recommend using pie filling or canned fruit. I think the liquid really helps make this amazingly delicious. You can use just about any kind of pie filling like cherry, blueberry, peach, etc.

I personally like using canned fruit as I don’t really like that “gel filling” in pie filling. Usually when I buy canned fruit, I stick with “water” or “pear juice,” but for this dessert I like to buy the fruit in heavy syrup.

Can you use frozen peaches for this microwave 3-ingredient peach cobbler?

If you want to use frozen fruit, I would recommend defrosting the peaches. When you do that, it creates a liquid that is very similar to using canned peaches.

What kind of cake mix do you use for the 3-ingredient cobbler?

My preference is yellow cake mix. It just tastes like a cobbler crust to me. Butter cake mix and white cake mix are almost the same as yellow cake mix, so they will work great, too.

How do you make a Microwave 3-Ingredient Peach Cobbler?

This will literally take you a minute to throw together. I use an 8 x 8 baking dish — which is my favorite baking dish for using in the microwave. It can make so much from this peach cobbler to casseroles to cakes!

I use 1-2 15 oz cans of peach slices. For a lot of filling, I recommend two cans or one big 29 oz can. If you prefer more crust to your cobbler, then one can should be fine.

When using two 15-oz cans, drain one entire can of the liquid, and likewise drain half the can with a 29-oz can. If I’m using just 1 15 oz can, I drain half the liquid out before pouring the fruit into the baking dish. Doing this will prevent your cobbler from being soupy.

Now combine half a box of cake mix and a melted stick of butter until it’s completely mixed up. Then, drop it by the spoonfuls all over the peaches. You should be able to cover up the entire baking dish this way.

How do you cook the Microwave Peach Cobbler?

There will be a difference when you cook this in the microwave instead of the oven. It will not get that hard golden brown crust. The crust will remain more cake like, but as it cools, it does become more “crust like.”

With my 1000-watt microwave I start the cooking process for 6 minutes and found 7-8 minutes was most ideal. I look for the cake to be completely cooked, and the peaches to be bubbly on the sides.

How do you serve microwave cobbler?

I put a big scoop in a bowl and eat it. You can also top it with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.

Ingredients

  • 1-2 15-oz cans of peaches in heavy syrup
  • 1/2 of a 15-oz yellow box cake mix
  • 1 stick of unsalted butter, melted

Instructions

  1. Get out a microwave-safe 8 x 8 baking dish.
  2. Melt the butter and combine with 1/2 the cake mix.
  3. If using 2 cans of peaches, drain one completely of liquid. If using 1 can, drain just half the can of liquid.
  4. Pour the peaches into the baking dish and spread them around.
  5. Drop spoonfuls of the cake mixture all over the peaches, covering almost the entire baking dish.
  6. Cook for 5-7 minutes in the microwave. Check to make sure the cake mix is cooked through and the peaches are bubbling on the sides.
  7. Allow to cool for 5-10 minutes before serving.
  8. Serve with vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, or just plain.

Notes

If using a 29-oz can of peaches, drain half the liquid before pouring the peaches into the baking dish.
